iTaste-Express, the best ‘cheap American Chinese’ joint in the city (52 W 28th St)

Just discovered this place a few weeks ago, and I personally think that it’s one of the best ‘cheap greasy Chinese food’ restaurants in the city, maybe the best. Great variety of side selections (fried rice, lo mein, pan fried noodles) and entree selections (ribs, pork chops, various styles of chicken/shrimp/steak/pork) The food actually tastes […]

Building manager locked us out of the laundry room and gym for a supposed lease violation.

We just moved in to a nice building in Chelsea. They use that app Latch for access to all the side doors and amenities like the gym and laundry room. My partner and I brought a box in through one of the doors last week that they said was “too big” and should have been

How many calories do you estimate is in the average “Lamb over Rice” dish at the average halal cart?

Rice, lamb, tomatoes, sometimes lettuce, onions, other vegetables. Almost two pounds of delicious greasy halal slop. How many calories do you imagine is in this one meal? Even when the guy says “Boss I gave you extra!” https://preview.redd.it/gz7k028gfpwd1.png?width=400&format=png&auto=webp&s=3429e13978353db390ef3b3d82f2d74bd698bbdd submitted by /u/Mr_WindowSmasher [link] [comments]

Finally Did It—Opened My First Burger Joint 🍔 (Now Come Get a Free Burger… if You Catch Me There)

Hey, FoodNYC—after lurking on this page for far too long, I finally took the plunge and opened my first quick-service restaurant, CASA 13URGER, at 1 Delancey St. on the LES. Because what NYC really needed was another smashburger joint, right? 😅 But seriously, after painstakingly perfecting every detail (including fries that actually stay crispy even

How could the NYTimes leave out Ess-a-Bagel?!

This “best bagels in NYC” list curated by the New York Times really surprised me. It left out my favorite bagel shop, Ess-a-Bagel. Although with that said, the rest of the list is pretty good. Lots of love for Utopia Bagels too. Feeling Lonely in NYC

I’m female in my early 30’s working in corporate finance. I’ve been in the city for 2 years now, and during this time I’ve joined a social club, volunteer weekly at a children’s hospital, taken a couple art classes, tried Bumble BFF and even tried to create a bookclub. While I’ve met people and been

[UPDATE] We found the family of the woman who passed away surrounded by caring strangers!

In follow-up to yesterday’s post: with the help of you guys I was able to find the family of the woman who sadly passed away in my arms on an UES sidewalk, and let them know she didn’t die in solitude. I’m so grateful :’) Because you all commented and upvoted, this post had a

A woman died in my arms on Second Ave this week and I’d like her family to know she didn’t die alone. Help me find them.

Around 7pm on Monday I spotted an elderly woman (Black/brown, around 75-85 years old) lying on the sidewalk of 63rd and 2nd Avenue. She had a Bloomingdales shopping bag and a pink handbag (just mentioning for possible identification). Something was clearly wrong. She was not able to form words anymore, but was still conscious. I

Elevator usage limit?

So my friend has been renting a place in NYC, and things were fine until recently. The building management installed these new elevators that require you to scan your keycard every time you use them. But here’s the weird part—they’re only allowed to use the elevator three times a day. If they go over, they

Best way to handle NYC landlords not returning security deposits?

I moved out of my Brooklyn apartment three months ago, and my landlord still hasn’t returned my security deposit. I left the place in great shape—cleaned everything, no damage beyond normal wear and tear. I’ve tried calling and emailing, but they keep brushing me off, saying they’re “waiting for paperwork to clear.” It’s starting to

Is it ever actually worth it to buy a place in the city these days?

Assuming you’re not extremely wealthy and paying 10 million is like spending pocket change, is it even worth buying in the city these days? Maintenance fees/taxes and interest on a mortgage are almost always more expensive than renting. Am I missing something? I don’t think there’s much expectation for New York real estate prices to

Looks Like TabeTomo is re-opening with $5 ramen bowls and free t-shirts

PSA for anyone interested in a tsukemen ramen shop in NYC. Use to go here a lot since I knew some of the staff–pretty cool people. One of the upstairs apartments in the same building had a fire which caused the restaurant to close down and it seemed like they just finished renovations. https://www.instagram.com/p/DA3-JngSNRk/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== submitted

Do you try to guess where someone’s going on the train so you can grab their seat when they get up?

I feel like this is one of those NYC hacks that people don’t talk about openly because it can involve stereotyping, but if I want a seat on the train, I try to stand closer to people who look like they’ll be getting off sooner — and avoid standing near people who look like they’re
