So my friend has been renting a place in NYC, and things were fine until recently. The building management installed these new elevators that require you to scan your keycard every time you use them. But here’s the weird part—they’re only allowed to use the elevator three times a day. If they go over, they get a warning for “excessive elevator use.” Seriously? In a high-rise building?
Anyway, my friend came into some money and was able to buy their own place, so they decided to move out. They figured, why stick around with these strange restrictions? But now their roommates and the building management are super pissed. They’re accusing my friend of being selfish and irresponsible for breaking the lease and leaving them in the lurch.
My friend feels like the building’s ridiculous rules pushed them to make this decision, and they’re just trying to do what’s best for themselves. But they’re getting a ton of backlash from everyone around them.
So, NYC folks, is this a common thing with these new elevator policies? And is my friend overreacting here, or does this sound as crazy to you as it does to me?
