Gao Xiao Pa’s $6 rou jia mo (“Chinese burger”) cooked using a vertical rotisserie like in al pastor and shawarma (Flushing, Queens)

Gao Xiao Pa – Google Maps This is a more unique take on rou jia mo with stacked marinated chicken thigh cooked on a vertical rotisserie. They even have pineapple on top of the spit like al pastor would. Think you can get a slice of pineapple with your rou jia mo if you ask.

Mama Yoshi’s Minimart (1711 Grove St. Ridgewood/ Wycloff-Mytle L train stop/Seneca M/J stop)

Just had lunch at this Ridgewood outpost that’s been on my list for years. Mama Yoshi is a neighborhood fast casual restaurant that serves chicken katsu sandwiches, breakfast burritos, and katsu curry bowls. They also sell an assortment of imported Japanese pantry goods and snacks like ramen, curry blocks, staple condiments, chocolate bars, and canned

Visited for my sisters wedding, had 2.5 days to explore- here is where i went!

Birdee- cherry pistachio milk bun was a 10. the churro croissant was ok, i just wish it had filling. the blueberry lemon twist also great. the BEC however was too salty. still good, just not great. 8.2 Bernie’s- wedge salad, vinegar chicken, mozz sticks, and the lemon ice box pie was amazing. the overall vibe,

Gai Kitchen’s Thai-style roasted and steamed chicken rice for $10.50 (Chinatown, Manhattan)

Gai Kitchen – Google Maps Page Gai Kitchen – Website This place is very good for a quick, casual, and filling meal. The chicken is tender and flavorful and comes with two different sauces. I opted for the ginger rice, which was very fragrant. It comes with a very good soup that was not simply

Is it just me or is it just ridiculously more expensive to dine out, and the rise has been quite recent?

I’m a frugal diner, usually solo, and I’m always very calculative about meals. I like going to normal restaurants, nothing much upscale, and I usually order 2 things max (entree + either app, dessert, or non alcoholic drink) I feel like even a year or year and a half ago I used to spend between

El Tenampa: Great tacos in the back of a Mexican deli (Sunset Park, Brooklyn)

El Tenampa Deli and Grocery – Google Maps Page Hard to tell they serve amazing Mexican food from the outside. After entering, walk straight back for tacos and more. This place can get very busy, especially on the weekends. Lots of people eating in and taking out. Very local feel. Tacos were $3.75 each. Got

Babka review!

Starting a new training program called fat a** runs. Where me, the fat a** runs to a bakery of my choosing to get a sweet treat that cancels out the whole run I just did. Today’s run was motivated by babka. I ran 10 miles around Manhattan and over the Williamsburg bridge to Oneg Bakery

Best authentic Hong Kong wonton noodle soup in NYC? Just got back from my first trip there and I’m chasing that flavor!

I just got back from a trip to Hong Kong and had the best wonton noodle soup I’ve ever tasted. Super delicate wontons, thin springy noodles, and a subtle but flavorful broth. Both the pork and shrimp dumplings were amazing – the shrimp had a slight umami, salty flavor and the pork kind of tasted

Where can I find New England / Massachusetts-style American Chinese food in NYC??

I grew up eating Chinese takeout in Massachusetts / New England and I feel like it’s VERY different from what I’ve been finding in NYC. Boneless spare ribs that are sweet, a little sticky, slightly fatty (not dry or super lean) Crispy crab Rangoon’s that are super thin And duck sauce that has apple sauce

Hainan’s $5.99 Jajangmyeon / jjajangmyeon (noodles in black bean sauce) and Tangsuyuk in Murray Hill, Queens

https://hainannyc.com Google Maps page Hainan is one of the places I recommend for Korean-Chinese food and to satisfy jajangmyeong cravings. Their regular jajangmyeon is $5.99 cash price for dine-in. A bit more for take-out and with credit card. This was very good for the price. Very saucey with thick, chewy noodles. They have others that

Can Wonder please fuck off

I’m genuinely so sick of their shit. They’re literally just 100 ”restaurants” in one, horrible frozen food microwaved and designed (probably even ai-generated) to look good in their ads, taking loads of money from actually delicious small businesses. I suggest trying Ladybird or PLNTBurger for good healthy vegetarian stuff rather than “Hanu Poke by Wonder”

Influencer Fatigue

Has it occurred to us that the trendiest restaurants in NYC – according to influencers who just landed here yesterday – really just serve slightly elevated versions of common midwestern food? It’s all just steaks, burgers, pizza, and pasta. It’s fundamentally boring. Once I realized that NYC food influencers are just hawking the food they

Appreciation post for Kat’s Reuben Sandwich with pastrami.

I only eat here once or twice a year, usually when bringing visitors. Every time, it’s a great experience. The pastrami practically melts in your mouth, and the melted cheese blends in perfectly. The service is excellent. Yes, it’s very touristy, but in my opinion, it’s still unmatched in its category. submitted by /u/Macredd [link]
