Hainan’s $5.99 Jajangmyeon / jjajangmyeon (noodles in black bean sauce) and Tangsuyuk in Murray Hill, Queens

https://hainannyc.com Google Maps page Hainan is one of the places I recommend for Korean-Chinese food and to satisfy jajangmyeong cravings. Their regular jajangmyeon is $5.99 cash price for dine-in. A bit more for take-out and with credit card. This was very good for the price. Very saucey with thick, chewy noodles. They have others that

In your opinion, do you feel that a New Yorker has culturally and socially more in common with people in some foreign cities than he/she does with someone in parts of rural America?

Would you personally feel more “at home” in some Latin American, European, or Asian cities than you would in, say, the rural Midwest or rural Deep South? submitted by /u/Early-Ingenuity-3177 [link] [comments]

I unexpectedly got fired today. What are some things I should do with the abundant free time I now find myself with?

Still reeling a bit from getting let go but trying to look at this as a positive because this job was mentally and emotionally destroying me. I’ve never had more than a week long break as an adult. Keeping my limited budget in mind what are some things I should do around the city that

Can Wonder please fuck off

I’m genuinely so sick of their shit. They’re literally just 100 ”restaurants” in one, horrible frozen food microwaved and designed (probably even ai-generated) to look good in their ads, taking loads of money from actually delicious small businesses. I suggest trying Ladybird or PLNTBurger for good healthy vegetarian stuff rather than “Hanu Poke by Wonder”

How to Cope With Feeling Acutely Aware of How Lonely You are on Beautiful Days

Just got off work and walking in Manhattan and it’s soooo beautiful out and everyone is out and about with friends or in couples or families. And I’m acutely aware of how lonely and sad I am? Everyone is in their little bubbles. I have individual friends scattered throughout the boroughs, and my family is

Influencer Fatigue

Has it occurred to us that the trendiest restaurants in NYC – according to influencers who just landed here yesterday – really just serve slightly elevated versions of common midwestern food? It’s all just steaks, burgers, pizza, and pasta. It’s fundamentally boring. Once I realized that NYC food influencers are just hawking the food they

Being average in nyc

I feel like every person in nyc is either pursuing lifelong passions or working jobs where they make hundreds of thousand a year. I’m struggling to feel like I belong as just a regular person trying to make it day to day. submitted by /u/OtherFaithlessness42 [link] [comments]

Appreciation post for Kat’s Reuben Sandwich with pastrami.

I only eat here once or twice a year, usually when bringing visitors. Every time, it’s a great experience. The pastrami practically melts in your mouth, and the melted cheese blends in perfectly. The service is excellent. Yes, it’s very touristy, but in my opinion, it’s still unmatched in its category. submitted by /u/Macredd [link]

Pete Wells was a maestro. The NY Times/NY food scene hasn’t been the same since.

Ever since he left, they’ve tried to replace him with a potpourri of writers, and none are remotely close to supplanting his prose. They don’t even review NYC restaurants exclusively anymore – it’s national now. He was as ubiquitous a part of the NY food scene as Jonathan Gold in Los Angeles, who sadly passed

Who else is getting crushed by NYC cost of living? (childcare, rent, healthcare, etc.)

Hi all, I am seriously wondering how people can afford to stay here. Been here almost a decade and the rise in costs–especially since the pandemic–are absolutely crushing us. Our situation is: We make about $145,000 as a couple before taxes, both later 30s Our previous apartment’s lease could not be renewed, so we just

Is it a red flag in dating as a 34 year old male living with his parents working full time?

Shits expensive yo. But really I make $63000 right now before deductions. I have enough for a down payment I just don’t quite have enough for mortgage payments. Do you think at my age women aren’t going to be interested in dating me because I haven’t moved out? submitted by /u/MisterPuffyNipples [link] [comments]

NYT: Dinner and No Drinks: Restaurants Are Struggling as Americans Drink Less

Is it really that surprising that people aren’t drinking out as much anymore given the preposterous cost of drinks nowadays? I love cocktails and much to the detriment of my wallet will often hit up specialty cocktail bars, and fork up the $25/drink (incl. tip/tax). I wish they were cheaper but it is what it
