I’m a Brit who’s been in New York solo for a few days. Leaving today ☹️
I went drinking last night in a bit of a dive bar in midtown, sat at the bar enjoying making new friends. Kudos, New Yorkers in bars (especially the working class ones anecdotally) are incredibly friendly.
Anyways after my third pint of beer I ordered a forth and the bartender refused to charge me, “on the house sweetie”. I’m a pretty seasoned drinker around the world at this point and this has literally never happened to me. I was tipping the standard $1 a beer so it wasn’t like I was due one. Is this quite normal in NY or was she hopelessly in love with me? I need to know so I can decide how much I will furnish this tale when I get home 🙂
