Yellow cab scam from JFK

The past couple times I’ve taken a yellow cab from JFK, when I arrive at my destination the driver wants me to tap my card on his phone rather than use the in-car POS card reader. Both times the driver has said that the card reader is “frozen” or “broken.” And each time I’ve refused

Peter Luger experience

Finally went to Peter Luger today (Brooklyn) and the servers were not rude, the porterhouse was amazing and the cheesecake was superb. After reading so many comments about this place, I was low key worried. Why is there so much hate for this place? Yes it was expensive, but I think all steakhouses are expensive

What’s something tourists complain about in NYC that locals actually like?

I hear tourists complain about NYC all the time—too loud, too crowded, too fast, “people are rude,” etc. But a lot of those things feel like part of the charm once you actually live here. Curious what falls into that category for you. What’s something visitors hate about NYC that locals either like, appreciate, or

Wild Cherry Matchbook

Awesome matchbook from Wild Cherry! They offer French influenced traditional American food. The room evoked a speakeasy/ art deco vibe and the service was informal and entertaining! For starters, we went with the Caesar Salad & the Beets & Sunchokes and enjoyed the Cheeseburger, Lobster Club and I highly recommend ordering the Kielbasa & Kraut.

Is it just me or does NYC make you feel broke even when you’re earning decent?

I moved to NYC thinking I’d finally get a handle on my finances. I make okay money for my age, nothing crazy but enough to live decently, or so I thought. Between rent creeping up every year, $7 coffees, and the constant “let’s grab a drink” or “quick dinner” invites, I swear my paycheck disappears

Fette Sau

Pork belly, beef brisket, and “Cora’s broccoli salad” — a nice complement to the meats, which I’d never tried — at Fette Sau in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. After nearly two decades, Fette Sau will close its doors (and its gate) forever on Sunday evening, December 21. submitted by /u/EatingInTranslation [link] [comments]

Teenagers smoking and assaulting people in my building. What are my options?

Hello, I live in Brooklyn and there is this group of teenagers who pack like 15-20 people into my tiny vestibule and totally hot box the place. They don’t live in the building. I’ve called building management and they’re totally useless. The super is even worse. 911 shows up half the time and 311 just

Tao Hong’s standout cha siu bao (pork buns). A great alternative to Mei Lai Wah without the lines!

Google Maps page. It’s right by Wah Fung. They have the regular and pineapple bun versions. Tao Hong’s pork filling is less fatty than Mei Lai Wah’s. Their other pastries, like their egg tarts, are also really good. Plus, the owner is really nice. submitted by /u/justflipping [link] [comments]

The East Village Meat Market’s hot food tables, Saturday only

https://www.eastvillagemeatmarket.com/ https://www.yelp.com/biz/east-village-meat-market-new-york I know there are other, possibly cheaper places in the city to get this sort of food, but there aren’t as many options in Lower Manhattan as there used to be and I’m very glad these guys are still around. I don’t do this every Saturday—we’re not exactly talking health food here—but every

NYC airports

Serious question. Why do we all gaslight ourselves into thinking this is acceptable? I’m genuinely convinced Satan himself engineered the logistics from Manhattan to the airports (EWR/JFK). And before you say woah woah what about LGA? This is a rant specific to NYCs “International” airports. For a “world-class city,” the options are seemingly designed by

Do you ever stay home all day

Would love to know if people ever stay at home all day doing nothing. Some weeks I’m out all day/night and barely home and then some days I just rot at home. Feel guilty about it because there is always so much to do here. Interested in everyone’s answers/experiences? submitted by /u/nycbiatch [link] [comments]

Any MTA workers here? Why do you guys drive past people clearly waiting for the bus?

This time, I wasn’t even the one waiting. I was on lunch, walking back to work. I saw an elderly couple with two young children (assuming grandkids) waiting at the stop. The bus driver looked in their direction and just kept driving. He had a red light just a few feet away, so he ended
