My 3-year-old fucking loves garbage trucks. The only reason he will leave the house to go to day care in the morning is because we’ll probably see garbage trucks on the way.
One of his frequent questions is “where do the garbage trucks live?” So boy was I excited when I saw that several DSNY garages were giving tours for Open House New York this year.
Tickets were released at noon today, so I was on the event bright page refreshing at 11:59. Only to be dropped in line behind 2600 other people waiting for garbage truck tickets, wait breathlessly for 15 minutes, and be told the garbage truck tour was sold out.
What the fuck? Why does everything in this city have to be like getting fucking Taylor Swift tickets? Getting my kid into story time at the public library is the same god damn thing.
I am going to Milwaukee, where I bet they’re fucking begging 3-year-olds to go on their garbage truck tour.
In the meantime, if you have tickets you’re not using for an Open House New York DSNY tour, I will Venmo you the cost and maybe enough for a six-pack.
