People who barely know their neighbors, how would you feel if they knocked on your door and invited you over?

I have lived in NYC for three years and never got to know my neighbors. They never knocked on my door, and I never knocked on theirs. The only time I saw them was when we waited for the elevator. It’s not like I didn’t want to know them, but it always felt intrusive to

Amazing hospitality moment from owner of culture espresso

I interviewed Johnny Norton of Culture Espresso in midtown which is my fave coffee shop. Like most good restaurants etc he became obsessed with limiting options and creating a welcoming environment through his own experiences at Stumptown and studying danny meyer etc. In doing a ton of these interviews now I think the common denominator

Ayesha Nurdjaja of shuka and shukette being real AF

I think this is interesting she’s saying too many diners are referencing reviews and tiktoks and it stops them from just having fun. Edit: If you wanna check out the whole podcast it’s here! I’m not making any money at all just tryna build an interesting thing loosely around food https://linktr.ee/danlovestochat?utm_source=linktree_profile_share&ltsid=64074a2b-fa2d-4224-a656-cdd23191bf56 submitted by /u/Better_sauce [link]

What’s an appropriate thank-you gift for a Chinese woman who owns my local takeout spot?

Hi everyone, I have a question about gifts and what’s considered appropriate or thoughtful in Chinese culture. I’m a Hispanic American woman, born in NY and in my 30s, and I’ve been getting takeout from the same Chinese restaurant on my block for about eight years. The cashier is a Chinese woman around my age

Asides from tourists, what are you pettiest pet peeves as a New Yorker?

Emergency vehicle background noise is the soundtrack of NY, but a couple of ambulances are ridiculous. The FDNY ambulances have their volume on 11. The other is Hatzolah which combine ambulance, fire truck and truck horns at the same time, so you don’t know which vehicle to look for. As well, they cruise gingerly and

My birthday and woke up this morning like hmm let’s try to go to Minetta Tavern and walk in with no reservation with my wife. We had a back up spot nearby (Old Tbilisi Garden, can never get enough khachapuri) in case they told us to fuck off. Walked in around 1pm and asked to

Anyone else annoyed seeing/hearing so many non-NYC people weigh in on NYC mayoral race? (This is not about the politics)

I hear directly from and see family post on social media about the NYC mayoral race (from both sides), and I find myself growing annoyed by them. In fact it’s the ones aligned with me politically that I’m sometimes most annoyed by; I’m glad you agree but you don’t speak for us (stop saying “we”).
