I went to a bodega this weekend to buy a sandwich. Interaction mostly went fine. When I went to pay I was told that my sandwich would be $10. I was offered a receipt and declined. My credit card notifies me on my app how much a transaction was for and that it was approved. When I looked at the transaction it was for $80. The bodega was only a few blocks away from me so I went back the next day. I discussed the issue with the woman who made my sandwich who I assume was the owner. She was an older woman and was a bit shocked by the additional charges and called her daughter down. Her daughter brought down some tablet with the app and list of transactions. They eventually found my transaction with a few additional transactions on there. They struggled to explain how those additional transactions ended up on my card. And they tried joking about it. But I didn’t make a big deal about it. I just told them that I’d be monitoring my credit card. And if the additional charges were refunded that would be the end of it. And if not, I’ll be contacting my credit card company and doing a charge back. But I obviously won’t be going back there or giving them my business again.
Have you ever experienced this at any businesses in NYC?
EDIT: I called my CC company and they let me know that they can see the pending refund. They also told me that they have access to my CC details and recommended that I get a new CC. So they canceled my current one and shipped me a new one which should be here in like a week.
