Building mates mad at me for kicking homeless lady out.

I live in the bronx in a 6 story building, the other day I went outside to walk my dog and I noticed our lock had paper stuffed in it to prevent it from locking when closed. I removed the blockage and continued outside. On our stairs was a lady smoking crack with no shoes on talking to herself. When I came back she started screaming at me asking if I had removed the blockage to which I replied yes and she started screaming how its cold out and she has no key to get in. She has no key because she does not live here. The next day another resident of my building confronted me saying it was wrong how I “violated” her and she doesnt cause any issues. I told him I was happy to contact the police and let them sort it out but I would not stand for people blocking our doors open so anybody can get it. A few weeks ago my girlfriend was in my place alone and somebody started slamming on our door screaming for her to let them in and she was terrified and called the police. Now my building mates have labeled me as a “snitch” and “heartless” Am I going crazy here? Am I supposed to want homeless crackheads trying to break into my apartment? What would you do? Am I wrong?
