I live in the bronx and work in brooklyn. In both places I constantly see cops just standing around in low crime areas doing nothing often for entire shifts. Just on my street there are two delis and an organic smoothie shop and they all have 2-4 cops in front of them just yucking it up or playing on the phone all day. I have a police scanner I listen to for white noise sometimes and I hear calls going out for shootings and robberies all the time but the cops never leave. One of the stores I work for in brooklyn has asked the cops to please not loiter as it hurts business and they stand there anyway.
Do these cops just have nothing better to do than play angry birds while people get shot and robbed in the neighborhood ?
They arent preventing shop lifting at a smoothie shop and clearly are not contracted by the stores or anything so Whats the deal? If they have nothing to do maybe the city needs to cut resources for them, or atleast mandate that they stay in more dangerous high crime areas like subway platforms and the parks at night
