Maybe it’s just me but the amount of young (30 and under) people I’ve met here that are unemployed with little desire to work is a little shocking considering how expensive this city is and how landlords ask for so much when renting out apartments here. I recently met up with two girls I met through a Facebook meet up group, they were late 20s and when we were getting to know each other, I asked what they did for work and both of them said they didn’t have jobs but also quickly said “My parents don’t help me”
Last year I met a girl off of Hinge who lived in a nice 3 bedroom apartment in the East Village. She had 2 roommates, but she herself didn’t work. She told me she had moved to the city a year prior with “no job, just hoping it would all work out”
Is it just savings? Rich parents? I was unemployed for 3 weeks once and I had crippling anxiety every day until I found something else
