Was riding the subway today on my way to work and got off the train, up the stairs and as I’m about to leave the turnstile, a random woman approaches me and says she’s NYPD (even though she’s wearing normal clothes) and flashed a badge that was silver with some numbers on it (didn’t really stare at it but my gut was telling me it was fake). She asked if I was okay and if I felt safe riding on the subway and I said yes and kept walking. She walked with me and kept saying things along the lines of “I wanted to make sure you’re okay and ask if you felt safe on the subway.”
I then caught out of the corner of my eye some guy barreling through the turnstile and he bumped into my shoulder pretty hard and I kinda just brushed it off and walked through the turnstile/ out. I told her I was fine and walked away and she turned around and walked the other direction.
Feels like she was trying to scam me but also don’t really know what she was trying to accomplish? Maybe trying to pickpocket me? Has this happened to anyone before or have you heard of a similar story?
