Hung out with some people. There was a girl who was from out of state studying at NYU (paying out of pocket may I add). We went to go somewhere else and she proudly proclaimed that she refuses to pay for the subway because “no real New Yorkers pay for the subway”. She then mentioned she will pay for the subway in literally every other city and country, but because the MTA is a for profit company they don’t deserve her money.
Am I wrong to be upset? I thought it was extremely disrespectful and just a weird comment to proudly proclaim.
And yes she lives in an expensive gentrified neighborhood.
