A friend recently had her phone stolen within a day of arriving in Rome for her honeymoon…..which got me thinking/wondering.
Why are pickpockets so common in a lot of European cities – but not so much in NYC? Is there a historical/social/cultural explanation?
To me, NYC would seem to be ideal for pickpockets – densely populated, lots of tourists, super-crowded so easy to “accidentally” bump into someone.
Not complaining, of course….
