Is it normal to be kicked out of a restaurant one hour after you’re seated?

I’m a recent transplant, so I’m not sure how typical this is. We went to Soothr the other week and were told before entering that we would have the table for 90 minutes. Fine. Around the one hour mark, when we were still nibbling our last bits, the wait staff started to check on us every 2 minutes and tried to take away a plate of food my friend was still working on. Then we got the check immediately and were asked to pay up (“no rush!”)

Today, a group of four of us went to Ribalta. Again, around the one hour mark, the wait staff kept coming to our table to hint at us to get out when we were still nibbling. Then an hour and 5 minutes after we were seated, we were straight up asked to leave to make room for the next reservation. I understand restaurants have to turn over tables fast in Manhattan, but this level of aggression just seemed too intense and made the dining experience unenjoyable. Is this typical? Is there a way to navigate this?
