Restaurants almost universally serve their “sharing plates” in 3 pieces. Oh, we can add a fourth piece for you!!
They appear surprised by their clientele showing up as tables of 2 or 4 almost all of the time. Let me adjust this course for you and a few more dollars! I looked at the tables tonight around me and 9 out of 10 tables were 2 or 4 people.
And they start the evening by telling you they are family style or sharing plates. No, splitting one ounce of tuna is not family style, it’s a tasting menu and you gave me one serving.
I know, I can choose to go elsewhere and I will, but it’s become so common it’s gotten more challenging to avoid.
