The city wants to put gates at Washington Square Park. But gates just allow the city to eventually just close the parks whenever they feel like it. Many parks say they are open from 6-midnight but the gates are closed by the parks employees at 7-8 every single night of the week. Even in summer.
The city is as safe as it has ever been, and it isn’t because they are closing the parks early. If ever there was a time when parks should be open until their posted time in history it’s present day New York.
