Leaving NYC after 7 years and I’m heartbroken about it — anyone else been through this?

My husband and I have decided to leave NYC and move back to the Midwest. We have a 2-year-old and are hoping to grow our family, and honestly, we just need more family support nearby. Cost of living here has also gotten really hard to justify.

Logically, I know this is the right call for our family. But emotionally? I’m devastated. It genuinely feels like going through a breakup. I keep feeling like I’m giving up on dreams I’ve had for years, even though I know that’s not really true. I know I can come back and visit but it’s not the same.

Has anyone else gone through a move like this , leaving the city for practical/family reasons? Did it get easier? Did you find your footing again? Any light at the end of the tunnel would help right now.
