Born and raised NYC until very recently. had to take the bus or train for almost everything, lived in what the charities liked to call “disparaged” neighborhoods. I mention this to make the point that I was in no way sheltered from what the city had to offer. Why does everyone get super offended when you state you dont actively enjoy being followed home, harassed, lunged at, etc? is everyone just a more useful type of traumatized? i love the city but everyone thinks im crazy for being turned off by that or allowing my own experiences to form my opinions on wether or not i want to use public transit.
i know part of it is the conversation being dominated by the average bushwick warrior who’s so thrilled that they arent living in south dakota or some shit anymore that they instantly assume anyone with reasonable reservations is a “suburbanite” but im still curious for people actually affiliated with the city’s culture.
