“Kidnapped” by TLC-licensed driver from Newark Airport

Looking for my Uber, driver yells to get my attention, answered “yes” when I asked “are you so-and-so” (instead of “what’s your name? who are you here for?) Same vehicle type/color but I failed to check the plates. Long flights, tired etc. but both of those are on me.

5 minutes in, I realize the mix-up, tell him and am thinking I’ll need to give this guy some cash for my mistake. But it turns out it’s not an innocent mix-up: that’s not his name (I can see his TLC license), he doesn’t have a rideshare app open, and starts asking me “You’re going to the city right? What fare is it showing you?” I make him take me back to the airport, takes about 15 minutes to get back. Just before he drops me off he makes a pathetic attempt to claim that I told him the wrong name.

Got a pic of his license plate (it’s a NYC TLC plate number), have his name from the dimly lit cabbie license. Is there a point to reporting this to the commission?
