Why do so many Brooklyn men seem to fit a specific “archetype”?

This might sound like a shitpost but I’m just genuinely curious! I’ve noticed something kind of funny/interesting since spending more time in Brooklyn. Especially in neighborhoods like Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Bushwick, etc. It feels like a lot of the men fall into this very particular style/vibe or archetype (not sure if this the right word). Think tote bags, trucker hats, vintage tees, etc. It’s hard to miss once you start noticing it.

What I’m curious about is where this came from. Why does Brooklyn have such a defined “look” for men compared to, say, Murray Hill or Hoboken, where the style feels completely different (more polos/finance-bro vibes)?

Is this just a Williamsburg/Bushwick cultural export that became mainstream? Is it tied to the creative scene, gentrification or something else?

How did this “Brooklyn archetype” develop and why is it so distinct compared to other NYC neighborhoods? Thanks.
