Labor Day is celebrated every first Monday of September. This year, it falls on September 1, 2025. Federal and government offices are closed on this day, as well as many other places of business. However, you’ll find that most retail stores, restaurants, and attractions are still open to enjoy on Labor Day.

The Labor Day Parade (also known as the West Indian Day Parade and Caribbean American Parade) is the most colorful event in NYC. Every year, between 2 and 3 million people are expected to celebrate Caribbean culture.
At the same time, the West Indian Day Parade has a long history: in fact, in 2025 it will be held for the 55th time. The parade starts in Crown Heights in Brooklyn, not far from Park Slope. Get ready for a lot of happy and colorfully decorated people – a good mood is guaranteed!

Our favorite summer location is Grand Banks because of its maritime atmosphere and super delicious food! If you decide to go to Grand Banks, try to get there a little before the golden hour.

Labor Day Parade or West Indian Day Parade
There are two different parades each day:
The West Indian Day Parade is set for September 1, 2025, at 11:00 am in Brooklyn. This parade starts on the Easter Parkway and Schenectady and heads to Flatbush. There isn’t an official ending time because this tends to last most of the day. You can expect a lot of dancing, live music, and performances celebrating Caribbean culture, arts, history, and tradition.
If you’re looking for something closer to Midtown, Manhattan hosts its own parade on Labor Day. The kick-off events start at 10:00 am at 5th Ave and 44th Street in Manhattan with a free concert.
