Took my first trip to NYC earlier this month! I stayed in Midtown but did try to venture further around Manhattan to try lots of different foods. The only thing that isn’t pictured is my Reuben dog from Schaller’s Stube Sausage Bar, which was good but it was way too dark to take a picture.
1&2. 1915 Lanzhou Hand Pulled Noodles – braised beef noodles and lamb Chinese hamburger. The noodles were incredible but I would’ve liked them to be a bit saltier. The hamburger was delicious but I really should’ve focused on the noodles. I had just gotten off the plane and my eyes were bigger than my stomach.
Poke Bowl – just their signature poke bowl. This was not great but I needed to eat something before a show so I just found something on the way that seemed healthy ish. Ingredients seemed fresh but I wasn’t a fan of the sauce at all.
Broad Nosh Bagels – BEC on sesame. Delish but needed salt and pepper.
Levain bakery – I found the chocolate chip cookie incredibly mid. I also thought this really needed salt. I guess this is a theme! I also ordered the chocolate peanut butter chip and I thought that one was much better.
6 – 9. Nonna Dora’s – I admit I found this place on Tiktok and had wanted to try it for ages. I’m sure there are better Italian places in NYC but I just loved the idea of pasta handmade by an Italian grandma. The service here was really weird, the bartenders seemed uncomfortable that I was eating there by myself as a solo woman. The mocktail, octopus salad, and hazelnut semifreddo were all delicious but I actually found the pasta underwhelming. This was the scallop tonnarelli and the whole dish tasted fishy, plus the cherry tomatoes were barely warmed, which I found odd. Disappointed overall.
Russ and Daughters – lox and bagel with tomato and scallion cream cheese on poppyseed. A classic for a reason, I loved this.
Supermoon Bakeshop – the ube eclair was the best thing I ate all trip. I especially loved the tiny meringues on top. I also got the passion fruit donut and the cornflake cookie which were good but not amazing.
Shu Jiao Fu Zhu – lucked out and got a table here coming in from the rain. The pork ball soup was the hottest soup I’ve ever had and tasted so good after being out in the cold. Also loved the chicken and mushroom dumplings.
Harper’s Bread House – ducked into this bakery for a boba and couldn’t resist a Portuguese tart. It hit the spot but I’ve definitely had better.
14 -16. Mitr Thai – excellent mocktail, khao soi, and rice pudding with coconut ice cream. This is a beautiful restaurant and the service was excellent. I had a wonderful meal here.
Zillion’s Pizza – I grabbed a slice here since it was my last night and I hadn’t tried pizza yet. I was shocked but it was honestly amazing? I don’t think I’ve ever had proper NY style before and the super thin, crisp crust was just to die for.
Broad Nosh again – grabbed a pumpernickel with garlic veggie schmear before heading to the airport. A great last bite.
I can’t wait to visit again!
