Nerd Nite NYC returns in December with a characteristically curious mix of science, satire, and unexpected insight. This month’s edition moves from the deep sea to Silicon Valley to outer space, touching on everything from cephalopod intelligence to customizable psychedelics to one of the most influential photographs ever taken.
Marine biologist Connor Gibbons opens the night with a look at cephalopods—three-hearted, color-shifting creatures whose mythology and biology continue to shape scientific discovery. Journalist John Biggs follows with an exploration of new tech-led psychedelics promising everything from tailored transcendence to “legal cocaine,” reflecting a strange new frontier in engineered experience. The evening concludes with Jeff Vogel, who revisits Earthrise, the 1968 photograph that reframed humanity’s sense of itself, weaving in history, reflection, and song.
Playful, informative, and occasionally surreal, December’s Nerd Nite offers a fast-moving survey of curiosity across species, technologies, and worlds.
