My Pet Ram Presents As Familiar As Friend: New Works by J.A Feng and Erin Lee Jones

In As Familiar As Friend, My Pet Ram brings together J.A Feng and Erin Lee Jones for a two-person exhibition shaped by the Buddhist metaphor of Indra’s Net — the idea that every being reflects and affects every other. Both artists root their practices in mythology, memory, and material transformation, creating works that examine how small shifts ripple across larger systems.

Feng’s paintings begin with impulses — poems, fleeting observations, instinctive marks — that evolve into dreamlike figures and glowing, otherworldly landscapes. Her tigers, jeweled insects, and shifting terrains appear familiar yet untethered from the rational world, guided by an internal logic that invites viewers deeper into their atmosphere.

Jones approaches cosmology through sculptural monoprints formed in hydrocal. Borrowing from ancient seals and relief carvings, she collapses timelines so that mythic forms and contemporary icons collide. Her hybrid figures sit within dense fields of pattern, collage, and ink, bridging personal history with a wider cultural archive.

Both artists work through material alchemy — images transforming medium, and medium shaping imagery — to probe how objects and experiences continuously reshape one another. In a world where interconnectedness often feels overlooked, the exhibition suggests that care, vulnerability, and creative transformation can help rebuild the web that binds us.
